Question Oil Leak

Okay...I have this oil leak that has progressively gotten worse over the course of about a year. I know these engines are pretty notorious for the intake manifold gasket leak....so how can I tell if that is the culprit? Also, I just changed my plugs and wires and still have a hesitation....and I am pretty sure it's because oil dripped all over the opti....Im in a world of crap!

Clean up the area where the oil leak is with a rag and your favorite solvent. Don't squirt around the opti with water. Once it is cleaned up, you will have a better chance of finding the source of the leak.

Well I took my car to a local mechanic today to pinpoint the oil leak. 6 hours later they call me telling me they are prepared to drop the motor and fix a blown head gasket. Aren't the traditional symphtoms of that water in the oil? I don't have that. All I know, is that they wanted $1250 to fix an oil leak......that seems a bit fishy to me. Anything guys? I haven't had a chance to look under it tonight to see the engine after it was cleaned because of poor weather conditions.

I would not go through all that unless there are proven symptoms of a blown head gasket.
