I check my oil at least once a week b/c it likes to disappear. Now I know I didnt overfill it but this morning the oil was half way up the dipstick...what gives? There was oil on like 2 of the holes on the dipstick then it skipped over the top 2 and proceeded half way up the dipstick. Is this goofy?

 

Are you parked on a flat surface? The car was NOT running right? This happens sometimes, just re dip it and it should read normal.

 

Parked on a flat surface it was . It was not running either. About the redipping part...I redipped it about 8 times and it read halfway up every time. Weird eh?

 

sounds like you got fuel leaking in maybe from a stuck injector or two. I would change the oil ASAP and keep a careful eye on it

 

If you got that much fuel leaking in, the oil would be very black. and if course it would be thinner and smell like fuel. Go smell your oil!

 

werd. It will definitely stink if it contains fuel too.

 

I went and checked the oil again and this time it read normal on the dipstick. Didnt have any gas odor either. Wierd eh?

 

That's a relief. Perhaps the dipstick was dragging on part of the tube and spreading the oil on it, giving you the 'false' reading? It's happened to me.
