oil gauge going to zero...

I just got my car back together, and I've been driving it around. It's now a 396 stroker engine. I noticed today that when I really push it and take it up near redline, my oil gauge goes to zero, the check instruments light comes on. Then as the rpm's drop, the oil comes up, and the light goes out. Is this normal? Something to be concerned about? Thanks.

oil pressure

when you did the stroker did you install a highpressure highvolume oil pump and if you did did you put on a better oil pan (bigger compasity) if you did not there might be your problem at high rpms you are not returning enough oil to keep the pick up covered

Well, we put in a corvette high volume oil pump in the car. Under further observation, the oil reading drops when I stop suddenly. Is there supposed to be a sensor on the front of the oil pan in addition to one in the rear? Perhaps I have only one reading registering. Anyone help me out? Thanks.

oil pressure

the sensor at the back of the pan is for oil level i think that under heavy accel. you are uncovering the pick up the faster you spin the engine the faster you spin the oil pump if you are not recovering the oil back in to the pan faster than the pump is pulling it out that will cause your loss of oil pressure at high rpm i put on a canton oil pan it has more capicity then stock and has baffles to keep the pump pick up submerged

Your pickup tube prolly fell off the pump, thats why when you brake, all the oil flows to the front of the crankcase, and the oil pump is not able to pickup oil.
hit the oilpan with a hammer when it is empty, and see if you can hear the loose oil pickup tube in there.
Get it fixed ASAP.
