oil filter adapters questions
oil filter adapters questions
got a few questions I want to run by you guys
I broke the adapter for my car when taking it off. I have found part number 3952301, but I have seen some descriptions say it isn't for use with an oil cooler. can someone verify this? I'm thinking about keeping mine on because I have heard the 94 design is a better one. if I can not use that adapter, which one will work with the oil cooler.
are there any aftermarket adapters that are for lt1s? and if so would there be any advantage to going with them?

Be aware that another feature of the blocked by-pass is a total loss of lubrication if the filter fails. I've seen a number of bottom-ends spit out because the filter collapsed internally. Fram filters seem to be particularly suseptible to doing so when the weather gets cold and synthetic oil is used.

Plus I will make damn sure the oil is changed when required.
so why won't the adapter ( 3952301) work with the oil cooler? because it looks identical to the one I broke and was using a cooler, or is it with certain coolers.
also, I can't remember if I pulled one off, but is there a gasket between the adapter and the block? if using the stock adapter. I see the billet one comes with one

I know Fel-Pro supplies this gasket, but my engine builder swears it is not supposed to be used between the adapter and the block. I also checked the GM parts catalog, it swows no gasket used in this location. I doubt it would hurt if it were used, or maybe it has something to do with the oil cooler. Maybe someone else can chime in.
that's why I was asking about it because I was confused as to why it had a gasket in that kit. I can only assume it is because of the cooler, but I hope somone can shed some light on it
