oil dipstick tube broke off in block, help
oil dipstick tube broke off in block, help
We're working my a friends 2001 Dodge ram and replacing the oil pan and dipstick tube,
The factory tube broke off flush with the top of the hole in the engine,
Weve tried all kinds of things to get the piece out but it wont budge
The hole is tapered, so its difficult to hammer out from the bottom.
Been tring different things for 6 hours,
It is like the part of the pipe is fused to the engine.
Anyone have any ideas

punch and hammer from the top side along with a propane torch to heat up the area of the block around the hole the tube goes into. While heating, spray something like PB Blaster or Kroil in there. Use one of those punches with a centering ball on the end.
could try a sheet metal screw in a slide hammer and grab it from the inside to pull it out the top.
Last resort, a drill bit from the top.
Can't believe you burned up the better part of a day FING with the thing.
good luck. Till this post gets booted.

Problem was, the hole was tapered, so if the punch could go in the hole on the bottom, it would also go inside the tube we were tapping out.
We tried the punch and hammer, we tried putting a screw in from the top and using a crowbar on the screw, we tried everything we could think of, but it would not work
we ended up drilling it out from the top
then we just put a generous supply of RTV to hold the new tube in.
