Oil cooler question
Oil cooler question
Just wondering what my oil cooler is supposed to be attached to/with.....right now it is zip tied to some piece of metal under my car and it keeps sagging down a little bit. It looks like the only way to get it to stay in place is to try and drill a hole in my car and bolt it...but that will be very tough to do. A hose clamp will not fit, as the way it is now anyways. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Bill

Re: Oil cooler question
Don't know exactly what part is sagging but after it comes out of the cooler above the oil filter the two lines run together up alongside the motor and are held together by a clamp that has provision for one of the oil pan bolts to bolt it down. The rubber hoses should run straight to the radiator.
Re: Oil cooler question
Oh...well mine runs out of the oil filter backwards under the middle of the car and the oil cooler radiator is under my back seats, under my car. Facing lengthwise with the car....so the air hits it from the sides or something. But the oil cooler radiator is just hangin by some tie wraps.

If you want it to do some good, move it here:

Not only will it be rather ineffective under the car, but you run the danger of road debris damaging it and/or the lines which will ruin your engine unless you happen to catch the loss of pressure the moment it happens.
I attached mine for now with the quick connects that come with some coolers and are available at most autoparts stores. I plan on a more secure bracket but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Do you roadrace? If not, you probably don't need the cooler anyway and could simply remove it.

Re: Oil cooler question
I used to race...but I don't anymore. I don't really get on it much at all....but the local mechanic said since teh car runs so hot its better to leave it on there than to take it off.
I figure it can only help...assuming it doesnt spring a leak. It's pretty well up there not to hit any debris...and since the front of my car is only about 1.5 inches from the ground (the air dam) I don't go over anything big anyways.
Thanks
