Oil cooler

Does anyone have a diagram of the inner workings of the oil cooler in a 95 z28?

Re: Oil cooler

Just throwing this out there.

I deleted mine and have been running 5-40w synthetic in it for 3 years with no problems. From my understanding the cooler was to prevent conventional oils from thinning out too much.

Now that's just what I've read, searching various forums, so do so at your own risk. You will need a replacement coolant hose which costs a few bucks but the thing does weigh a few pounds though if you've got the weight reduction bug.

Re: Oil cooler

It's my understanding that it more of a oil heater (when the engine is cold) than an oil cooler. It helps to get the oil up to operating temperature quicker.

I think it's a dual purpose item @ the poster above, I thought factory recommends using 5w30 and tolerances in the engine determine what thickness to use? Anyways, at first it was leaking oil bad by the filter or so it seemed, thought it was the oil filter so that probably got over tightened and ended up replacing it. Then noticed it was at the joint where the coolant pipes connect, used sealant around the coolant pipes connection that has the crossover pipe type seals on, it that took care of the issue for a while. It has a new head gasket and I just changed plugs and they were all clean, engine oil clean, cylinders were clean and there is no performance issues. Does anyone make a dual filter conversion kit for these engines and is it okay to put the filters in the engine bay upside down for easy changing?

Re: Oil cooler

They are retarded and don't work for crap. Most people delete them. Hell GM did away with them halfway through the LT1 f-body's run. 95+ cars didn't even have them as an option.
