Oil Catch Cans? What do you use and where did you buy it?

I have searched and there seems to be lots of oil catch cans for the LSx crowd. What have you found to work, what brand and where did you buy if you dont mind me asking?

Generally, an oil catch can is used to catch excess oil/vapor from the valve covers. A hose is usually run from the valve cover back into the intake to burn the excess oil/vapor. Of course this can cause carbon build-up in the engine. The catch can goes inline of that hose.

I understand what the catch can does, but there are different types on the market that look the same, but apparently the insides arent. It need to seperate the oil from the vapor. If it just has a tube going in and another out, it isnt doing anything.
I need to know what works, what brand and where you have bought. If I can get a can for 20 dollars that does exactly the same as a 160 dollar one, I will buy the 20 dollar one. Some ebay ones are empty cans, some are expensive greddys look alikes.

The AMW can works great but is way too expensive for what it is. Any can with a filter element should do the trick, the $20 ebay cans have no filter and will catch nothing, I have one laying in the garage and it does not work. I replaced it with a air compressor separator from Home Depot and it works great. I may see if Sears carries any that are bigger as the biggest HD one will only hold about 6 oz...it was $28 total.

I went to Home Depot and they had the Huskys. They were 12 bucks, but my only concern is that little warning sticker on the side. Lowes has bigger ones, but I need a place to put it in my Vette.
Interesting read

Little Warning sticker?? Did I miss something? I know alot of folks have ran these. HD had 2 different sizes..the smaller one was about 1/2 the price but it would only hold about 3 ozs... the big one was $28, its been on my truck for about a month now and is working great, emptied it once so far.

yeah the one that talks of explosion. It is designed to run at a maximum of 125 degrees, and your engine bay is hotter.

That's because it's rated for pressure. Breathers are not pressurized, so as long as you don't melt it it's fine.

Exactly. Also, I've noticed on the datalogger, IAT is rarely above 135*F even on hot 100* days, but my catch can is mounted right behind the headlight, so its probably even cooler there than the IAT since my filter is under the hood by the fender on my truck.

Your might try using the Deutsch BF412 valve cover oil separator. It creates a torturous path for the oil vapor leaving the valve cover. Probably not as effective as the Husky filter but it's cheap and easy to try.
