i would say so. go ahead and replace that gasket set. and my advice, use permatex ultra copper RTV for the front and rear of the intake manifold and let it cure for 24 hours. worked great for me

is it super serious? no you probably could get by till winter. Mine i needed done immediately because the leaking oil was lowering the octane rating in my fuel causing knock and loss of power. I just did the intake manifold repair about a month ago for the first time ever. I had never taken off an intake manifold before for that matter. It was a lengthy process for the first time. IF you go ahead and do it take your time and look through http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/intakefix.htm

would your car stumble at high rpms if the oil was mixing in with your fuel? and also did you have a ring of oil stain all the way around your intake?

yes, i had the same high rpm stumble. i was getting up to 13 deg of knock retard at high rpms when i had the oil leak. Someone told me a loss of 2 hp per deg of knock im not sure it thats true or not. either way id say fix that leak.

would it only happen when the engine was hot like 210 plus degrees, but run fine at like 180-190?

Taking the heads off isnt a tiny job, even if you have to intake off. But why are you wanting to take your heads off?

seems like this whole problem is because of the egr. is there any chance that you could remove the entire egr system but keep the air pump and cat and still pass the sniffer test? they only check for cats in our area

ya you can just take off the egr. Just buy some block off plates and remove it all.

i dont know how easily the egr pipe is removed but id say just push it as far away from the intake manifold as possible and wrap it in heat tape if you can.

i dont see how just moving the pipe away and taping helps, the heat still enters the manifold, wouldnt that still cause it to warp and leak oil? i was just wondering if i could pass the sniffer without the egr system at all, i do know they are scanning the computers on obd2's wonder if they are doing that to the obd1's?

i dont think its the manifold warping. ive always thought it was the heat that destroyed the rtv sealent on the back of the manifold. i could be wrong though. the computer scanning must be a state mandated thing. ive never had that done here in NY.
