I just got a 96 z, the oil is due a change and it's black, is this ok, i can smell what seems like a little oil when i drive the car a while, is this normal, also i just checked the oil today and its on the add line, do you think i have a problem? thanks for the help

btw, does my car use 10w-30?

 

Oil always gets real black and thick when it's due. Change it as soon as you can though, don't cruise around for the next two weeks.

I used to change my oil every 2500 for the hell of it. I was **** about keeping new fluid in it.

The factory called for 5W-30, but 10W-30 is just fine to use. What's your mileage anyway?

Sounds like it is burning oil.

 

5w30 is what is called for, but 10w30 is fine. If you see bluish smoke from the tailpipes, you're burning oil. If not, then you're leaking oil onto the exhaust where it's getting burnt and causing the smell.
