Re: oil????

Do you have to add any oil in between oil canges? If so how much?
If not than I would say you are ok. You dont want to use syn on a car that has oil leaks as it will leak worse.

135,000 miles nd Amsoil 10W-30.

I was running 5w-30, but I like the idle oil pressure with the 10 better.

This is the closest you got to an educated reply but still misleading, the rest are simply ignorant. To fix that read here http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi when I say ignorant I simply mean lacking knowledge, now ignoring a source of knowledge that that you seek would be stupid. Just want to point out that at least to me ignorant and stupid ARE different things.
Weight means little without telling us the brand M1 30wts are near 20wt. and almost bad choices for this engine last I looked the 10w-30 being the thinner of the two , Amsoil on the otherhand 30wts run close to 40wt. much better viscosity for the LT1. If Mobil is your favorite just try the 0w-40 or 5w-40 much better suited to the LT1 than the 5w-30 or 10w-30. As far as synthetic and leaks it will only cause leaks if sludge was pluggin them and sionce synthetic cleans it can actually ocassionally stop a leak if it is caused by a dirty seal, perfectly safe in high milage engines. I also would not call 114K high milage on these, my LT1 wagon is at 180K and runs flawlessly and most LT1s exibit little bore wear well past 100K, bearings are only an issue because everyone likes to recommend too thin oils for this beast, everyone starting right at the begining with GM specing thin oil for CAFE reasons.

I agree with everything this guy just said...As I tell everyone else now, read up at that link he posted (BOBISTHEOILGUY is the best oil site out there for real world useful knowledge hands down). Also, do a search under the username Patman as this man really knows his stuff and what types of brands/weights work well in the LT1 for example...

I run the "German made" full synthetic Castrol Syntec 0w30 (more of a true 40w FYI) with a K&N oil filter (the longer one) and absolutely love this stuff (it has continuously tested out great over other popular brands). I also like what I've read and heard about Mobil 1 0w40 in the LT1/LS1 as well. These two particular motor oils are a very good example of something that has stood up very well to many quarter mile runs and a lot of hard street-driven abuse near or at redline at high operating temps for daily-drivers...

BTW, I bought my LT1 Z28 with nearly 109,000 on the clock that had used absolutely nothing but regular dino oil its whole life and made the switch to synthetic (GCS) at 111,000 with no problems at all...

owned, but he still needs to learn some tact. caprice, you dont need to belittle people. avoid the condescending remarks and give your educated opinion (i do love reading the informative portions of your posts though, thumbs up).

Hmm.. Lets see here... the original question was:

i was wounder what you othere high mile LT1 guys are running for oil, snythetic or not 5w30 10w30 15w40
And my answer was:
Mobil1 10w30, 107.5kmiles, no leaks.
In the context of the question, my answer doesn't seem (to me) to be in any way ignorant or uneducated.. I don't see how answering his question directly, could in any way be an ignorant or uneducated response.. The guy asked what oil, thats how I answered.. Unless you are implying that I'm not actually running the oil I claim to be running, in which case, I would be ignorant of the oil which is actually in my car, and as such, just blatantly lying.....

But, I assure you, I am educated about the oil that is in my crankcase.. I read the bottle.. it said: M-o-b-i-l-e-o-n-e-t-e-n-w-t-h-i-r-t-y.

I know I'm being a ******** with this response. I'm hoping maybe it will give you a hint that you should tone down your know-it-all enlightened attitude with regard to this oil stuff, and try refrain from calling people who don't share your opinions ignorant and uneducated, especially when you haven't even so much as asked why they hold the opinion they do yet. Maybe they know something you don't. Maybe they don't and they'll change their mind after you respectfully point them in the right direction. Maybe you're both wrong. Maybe in 10 years, we will find out that castrol causes the weakening of magnetic fields in the engine which prevent temporal breakdown of quantum oil passages (wormholes! yeah.. heh heh..), thus leading to eventual spontaneous engine failure.. muahahaha
