Odd problem...

Odd because I don't know exactly what it is...

Here's the scenario... The car at times stumbles at take-off, has been doing it for a while but seems to be getting worse. Well now it's stumbling a little off and on in other gears while driving. Nothing consistent, happens every so often.

Car is a 94 with some mild bolt-on's, new plugs, new wires, new coil, original opti, I believe. I picked the car up with 70k, now has 112k, so I am not sure if the opti was changed before that, but didn't appear to have been. I am thinking either the opti taking a dump, bad injector(s), or fuel filter? What's weird is it's not consistent, and when it stutters I give it more throttle and it smooths out.

Does anyone have a how-to for changing the fuel filter? I am going to start with that tomorrow.

A faulty EGR valve and/or EGR solenoid could exhibit that. Or a vacuum leak of any sort.

I have had to replace my EGR Valve once already and I don't think it's uncommon for them to go on our cars. I think my 96 had 40K on it when I replaced it.

Wouldn't this throw an SES?

That happened to mine...changed EVERYTHING that it COULD have been and finally just had it diagnosed and it was my opti. I am in the process of fixing it, and converting it to a vented opti too....

Not always and even less likely on an OBD-I car like your 1994.
