Odd Exhaust sound?

I change engines and the exhaust sounds odd. It almost sounds like a car with an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifolds.

However, I don't hear this sound in the engine bay...only at the back of the car at the exhaust exit.

I don't hear any problems with the rockers or any exhaust leaks and the car runs smooth with no problems.

It just sounds like a car with an exhaust leak.

Any ideas?

Re: Odd Exhaust sound?

You could have the rockers too tight.... Allowing you to hear combustion leaking past the exhaust valve through the exhaust.

I will be adjusting them tonight to see if this is a possibility. It was what also came to mind.

Re: Odd Exhaust sound?

I adjusted the valves tonight and it didn't change the exhaust sound.

It sounds just like an exhaust leak like you would hear around the exhaust manifolds, but is only heard at the rear of the car where the exhaust dumps.

I am kind of leaning to a burnt valve, but hesitation is that the car runs so well without a miss now.
