OBD1 Swap problems,, please help

Started the car today, drove it up the road, ran good. Pulled it back in the shop and put the OBD1 in, also took the LT4 KM out of my OBD2 and put it in the OBD1. Fired the car up. Ran it for maybey 10 seconds, wouldnt Idle, ran like ****(so I figured with no tuning. Went to download the stock tune from the OBD1 using tuner cats and a patch cable I bought off of this board for a OBD1 with an OBD2. When I go to download the tune is says establishing connection. After the Progress bar gets about half way the fans kick on and it says something about a wrong signal error, click OK then it says connection attempt terminated. Any suggestions??

Re: OBD1 Swap problems,, please help

ok well i use tunercats and the fans turning on is no big deal they turn on all the time while doing it....now the part about half way and it saying something about a wrong signal error i have no earthly idea what that could mean...mine has never done that...my friend was using it and didnt want me to do it(bad move) he was trying to find other features and hit the program ecm menu thinking there was more menus and after it had already started down the progress bar he just clicked cancel and first off his was a completely stock 95 z..and i have a 97 in open loop with wayyy diff options..he was loading my tune onto his car and it only loaded half...fried his ecu like crazy...car had to be towed...so dont **** with tunercats....let people that know how to do it use it...back to that i would just try it again also you should down load a program called freescan V2.10 easy program that you can use the same way just to read sensors and look at rpms and make sure your ecu is stilll running right...other than that i dont think i can help any more

Download the newest version of Tunercat. The old version would run the fans for the whole read/write but the new version kills them after the connection is established. If the fans are interfering too then just pull the fan fuse and see if that helps.

One problem I see though is you need to get the correct knock sensor. OBD1 and OBD2 KS are different.

THe Knock Module is the same re-read the previuos post it is the Knocke sensors. You need OBDI sensors for the OBDI ECM or it will run like poo and throw a SES code.

I have installed a OBD1 knock SENSOR. I reused the knock Modual out of my OBD2. After doing some searches I read that the KM is the same.

Right the knock modules are the same but the sensors are different. It makes no sense why the knock module would cause the car to run bad though. Why are you reading the OBD1 for?

Try another computer. And to make sure the cable is not your problem, try getting some logs using Datamaster and see if the same communcation break is present. If I had to make a guess Id say the problem is the laptop you are using... can you describe it?
