OBD 2-> OBD 1, gauges???

Just put a '95 motor/harness/ecm in a customers '97. Fuel pump relay, ECM power and guages all do not work. What is there that I need to re-wire to make everything hunky-dory? I know a lot has to be re-pinned for a V6 to LT1 swap just wondering if this is the same deal. I searched but all I came up with is that I need to solder in a resistor for the knock sensor

Re: OBD 2-> OBD 1, gauges???

the 95 car is obd1 and the 97 is obd2

the instrument cluster is also different and wont work with the 95 harness

if the cluster is from a v6 car then u need one from a 97 lt1 car, also you will need the 97 ecm and the 97 harness.

look at my sig. it took me months to figure out how to make this swap work the proper way and it was tough.

but if u insist on trying to repin the plugs and such, the cluster still wont work and the vats wont either, the 97 has a bcm and the 95 does not.

in my opinion the only way to make it work is listed above.

Re: OBD 2-> OBD 1, gauges???

correct, the car is a '97 (originally had an LT1) and the engine/harness/and PCM are from the '95. I would assume the VATS isn't an issue since the car starts and runs. Will the gauges work if I put the cluster out of the '95 in the car? That's really the only thing holding me back from calling the guy to come pick the car up. Thanks for your help!

the dash from the 95 to the 97 are completly different.
the whole dash is different.

why didnt u just use the 97 harness and ecm then if the car was a lt1 car?

I have a 95 harness and 95 pcm in my 97 formula but its only the engine harness... If you are referring to the whole wiring harness for entire car im not sure if that works or not but I have no probs with my setup

Re: OBD 2-> OBD 1, gauges???

I didn't use the '97 harness/ecm because I would have had to pull the front of the motor apart to install a crank sensor and also the PCM out of the '95 has the tune in it. It's a built 383 with a turbo. He didn't want to pay to get it re-tuned or for me to make the '97 harness work. So now he's going to have to pay me to re-wire the dash. All I have to do is get the gauges working and I'll tell him to come pick it up.

Re: OBD 2-> OBD 1, gauges???

Thanks for all your input. I got it all figured out. Only things that had to be re-wired to work were the tach/speedo. The signals travel to different locations in the different years. For the other gauges I simply had to re-pin the one of the connectors behind the kick panel. For the speedo I ran a wire from pin 5 on the black connector to the Dk.Grn/Wht wire on the blue connector behind the kick panel. For the tach, I used the tach output on the MSD box to the White wire on the blue connector. For the other gauges (H2O temp, Oil Pressure) I ran a new wire from each sensor into the pass. side kick panel. I ran new wires just to be on the safe side in case there was a break in the factory wire. The oil pressure sender will connect to the tan wire on the White connector under the dash and the H20 temp will go to the Dk.Green wire on the same connector. The volt gauge and fuel level worked fine. Haven't tried connecting to the Diag. port yet but I'm sure it'll have to be re-pinned too. I'll update when I cross that bridge.
