Not starting when hot

Basically if you drive the car for even a brief time and then turn it off, it wont start until it cools off. I would say it takes around 30mins to an hour. When it does start it runs fine with no issues, until you shut it down. I was thinking the coolant temp sensor in the waterpump or a leaky injector.

Anyone have a similar problem, or any suggestions.

Define "won't start"? Is the problem the starter won't turn the engine, or is it when the starter turns the engine the engine doesn't start?

Re: Not starting when hot

Depending on what it's doing it sounds like the starter is getting heat soaked. Time for a new one.

The starter turns the engine over without an issue. The car just doesn't start. If you leave it for a minute it might start for a few seconds then die. The longer I leave it to cool down the longer it seems to run.

As I said above the starter turns the engine without a problem. Again the starter is not the issue. Thanks though

Re: Not starting when hot

You mention an issue when restarting but what happens when you don't shut it down? As in an extended drive. Do you notice any poor running or misfiring?

Perhaps you could monitor fuel pressure when you go to restart it or pull a plug wire and check for spark.

If it was the ICM, wouldn't the car faulter while it was running?

If you just continue to drive it is ok, I noticed the idle gets a little choppy but no misfire. I was thinking the same about the fuel pressure.

I may have solved my problem. Today it wouldn't start again, in the process of trying a few things I dissconnected the tps sensor and the car fired on the second try. So I picked up a new tps, I notice the idle isn't as choppy and the car tends to fire better. Since the problem is so sparatic it's hard to say if that was it.
