NOS it or not???

I was thinking about N2O but I am not sure if this will be safe for my car. Is that true that 20 150hp shots of N2O can blew LT1 engine?
Thanks

Not sure, but I know I wouldn't run a 150 shot on a stock engine. I would stay more on the conservative side to make sure. But I have heard that if you take your horsepower and divide it by two, that's how much nitrous the engine can handle.

I think the statement of "Your engine can handle half as much nitrous shot as it makes HP" is wrong. What if he had a Heads and Cam motor then his output would be around 400-425 FWHP ... Divide that by two, you have 200, So then add another 200 to your already made 400 HP... 600 HP on the bottom end? I dont think it would last more then a shot or two. Itd be hella-fun while it lasts but ...

Anyways, there are alot of guys on here successfully running a 150 shot on stock bottoms. I personally would take it to like 100 if it was my car, but then again I also dont have the money for a rebuild. Nitrous is great if you only want to go fast VERY seldom. Its not something you can jump on at every red light race ... Not that I condone street racing, but its jsut something that happens... At anyrate though if you N20 It, start out with the smallest shot, and change the jets as you go up... Dont jsut jump rite to the 150 Shot ... Also, you might want too look into getting a progressive nitrous controller. It allows you to "ease" the blast of N2O into the engine istead of it hitting like an off/on switch. Its smoother on all the parts, and Dont juice it at low RPM's can be messy ... Your engine will suck in twice as much Juice at 2500 RPMs as it will at 5000 RPMs. I know it sounds rediculous, but think of it this way... The rate of N2O coming into the intake Plenum ( Or Runners if its Direct Port ) is a constant, the pressure doesnt change. The LENGTH of time that your intake valve is open IS a variable. The intake valve is open half as long at 5000 RPM's as it is at 2500RPM's. Therefore Nitrous "hurts" alot more at Low RPM applications then at high RPM's. Also, you'll need new plugs of a different heat range too for nitrous, otherwise youll foul out the stockers ...

If your car is high millage, like Id say over 80K, I wouldnt Juice it, **** mines only 13K , Original miles too , and I dont want to juice the beyotch ....

It's N2O.

You can run 125-150HP on a stock engine without damaging it, assuming the system is tuned correctly, is checked regularly and contains all the "smart" protective devices. Like anything, abuse it, or screw it up and you can do some serious damage. And of course, ANYTHING that increases the power increases the stress on the components, shortening life expectancy. Obviously, a 150-shot produces more wear and tear than a 125-shot, which produces more wear and tear than a 100-shot.

I ran the NOS 5176 kit with the .067 jet for 5 years. The engine was still in excellent shape at 65K miles when I tore it down for the stroker buildup.

i hae been running a 150 shot for almost 2 years no problems. Just stepped up to a 175 shot and still no issues. 100% STOCK longblock.

11.02 with the 175 shot,so no 20 150 shots wont hurt anything unless you are very bad at tuning it.
