Normal Oil Pressure

What is normal oil pressure for stock LT1's? For quite a while my oil pressure gauge has been reading just above the middle mark cold and below them middle mark after the car is up to temp.

What are the symptoms of a clogged oil cooler setup on the 95's? I've read that the oil cooler can hinder oil flow if clogged. Would this make my oil pressure high?

I'm running 10w30 Mobil 1 synthetic and have been for the last few years. Should I step it down the the recommended 5-30?

Thanks

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

GM spec is at least 6psi at idle and 10psi for every 1k RPMs above that.

The only way to see if the oil cooler is clogged is to pull it off and have a look, which sounds like an excellent time to delete that turd anyway.

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

That's why I was wondering if it was restricting flow, which could depending on if the oil pressure is measured before or after, and causing me to have a high reading but a low actual flow.

I should have done it this past weekend when I changed the oil. It crossed my mind.

What are the cons of it, I left mine on not knowing what difference it would make

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

They can clog (not all do of course), provide negligible oil cooling, and restrict the use of a tall oil filter if so desired.

GM dropped it as an option after the 1995 model year so it must not have been worth much.

SLP offered it on 96-97 SS though.

Running 10w30 is the exact same as 5w30 in the summer. Viscosity is no different. I personally run a couple quarts of 15w50 with couple quarts of 10w30.

It's a mix I decided on myself few years ago and has worked like a charm up to this point. (As in no oil pressure problems, winter or summer, and the engine noise is a bit more quiet).
