I was just wondering if its normal to be able to wiggle the pistons around in the bores a little bit. They are extreemly lose or anything, but I can move them side-side a hair.

yes thats normal, max movement aloud stock is .032 of an inch. wich will cause some wobble.

did you check piston to bore clearance?

If your pistons are slapping the valves you have a problem

Piston slap has nothing at all to do with the valves. It has to do with the piston rocking in the bores. It sounds like a knock on startup but goes away as heat expands things, my car makes it sounds similar to an exhaust leak but if you head an exhaust leak then immediately heard piston slap you'd notice the difference.

I think it would be a good idea to check the clearance while you have access.

Yes pistons are not round. they are bigger at the bottom of the piston. depending on the type of piston should be about .002 to .004 forged pistons should be .002 cast is about .004 thousands clearance. Jason

yeah piston slap is nothing to usually worry about. stock LS1's have had that problem I think, but the piston will expand with heat and it will go away.

dont forged pistons usually have piston slap??

forged pistons have a ring to them that could set off the knock sensor depending on how loud it gets. The piston slap came along with the newer motors its not a problem I have the ls motor in my truck its worse in the winter I think it had to do with the location of the rod being further up the piston but not real shore.

It'd be a good idea to measure the bores while you can.
