non Z rated tires.....

when i bought my car, the guy gave me the stock rims w/ non Z rated tires. My current tires are shot and i was wondering if it would be ok to run the non z rated tires for a while. My main concern is that i wanted to take it to the track now and again and i didn't know how they would handle temp wise there. thanks

They don't have to be z-rated. I'm running BFG KDW's and they're only Y rated, so far they've been great.

Yes its okay. You are trading grip for wear. If you need it, Tire Rack.com has a chart of what each speed rating means.
