Noise from rear

Ok heres a question for you pros. I did a search, but didn't come up with a definite answer. I have a 94 Z28, 61,000 miles on it, and it's an A4. When I put it into reverse and turn the wheel, there is a slight clunking noise coming from the back. Anyone know what that is, or how bad it is? Any info is appreciated, thx.

I to have a '94 Z28 with 60,000 on it. I bought my car new. About a year or so after buying the car, I developed the noise you are talking about. It's coming from the rear end. While it was still under warrenty I took it into the dealer, and they told me that it was normal noise for the type of posi-traction they use in the Z28's. How ever I am sure they ment to say bring the car back when it's out of warrenty so we can skrew you. I have talked to several other friends, and they all seem to thing the noise is not normal. I never had it fixed, and it's been making the noise for 50,000 miles now. It did diminish a little when I changed the gear lube, I used synthetic gear lube and the posi addative.

i had that same problem, did you change the fluid in your rear? make sure you use the right weight and additive and that should solve your problem

mine used to make noise specialy after it was warmed up a bit. the rear end fluid was changed right befor eI bought the car so i thought he forgot the additive....so had a place put some in....jsut some generic stuff they use I guess. still made the noise. so replaced all of it with mobile 1 and the genuine GM additive and it has been nice and quiet and working great ever since!!

Update: Any people who know their f-bodies, any help or info would be appreciated. I know something is wrong with the drum brakes, but that's besides the point. Here is the main problem. When I first get into the car, and drive, and make slow turns, there is no noise. But after driving for a while, when I turn slowly there is a rubbing/grinding noise coming from the rear. I just got the car about 2 weeks ago, and the guy supposedly went over the car. I am going to flush out the rear diff. oil and put in the gm approved additive, and take a look at the rear drums as well. Based on what I have told you, what else could be the problem. Do you think what I do on monday will fix it? Any and all solutions welcome. It's a 94 A4 with 62,000 miles on it. Thx

Do the fluid change and the GM additive and report back. No sense in speculating further until you have done that.

After you do the fluid change, go to a parking lot and do some slow, tight figures eights, forward and reverse to work the fluid/additive into the posi unit.

Well i have the same problem i think. But it feels like real bad wheel hop when i'm turning. Mainly only when i'm turning to the right. I changed the fluid with some mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90 and the gm addative but it didn't seem to help. My right back tire is sort of bald though. Do you think it is my tire that may be causing this or do you think my rear end is screwed?
