Noise normal?

Please don't laugh too hard. No, I have never had this car up to 90MPH since it was new. And when I had the heads done and headers and cam installed, the bottom went to hell with only 8k on the odom.

Well, I decided to break in the new short block the right way. Yesterday I went for drive for 100 miles and wound it up to around 80-90 in 6th gear (4.10s) at around 3K rpm. It seemed to get quite loud at aroud 80+. My question is this normal. If so these things can really be loud.

Thanks

Which driveshaft are you running?

Running stock DS for 97SS. Tried one time to get the replacement, but the GM TSB only included up to 96. They said the 97 DS had been fixed.

I wonder if anyone else with a 97 experienced excess DS noise?

I don't really know how they could have fixed it, but tha's what they said.

I thought that the engines just got really loud at around 80, but you DO have a point re the DS.

You should have a decent amount of road noise for one, and exhaust noise from your set-up (duh).

The driveshaft problem is very noticable once you get gears and are cruising high speeds no matter the tranny gear being used. Mine feels like the entire car wants to rattle apart and you can hear it vibrating and shaking the tranny.

Best bet is the ls1 aluminum replacement if you arent ever going to see the track or slicks. If you want to go bigger CF is $$$$, but awesome, and also the LPE 3.5 in aluminum is a quality peice at an affordable price.

On a totally different note, i responded to a post by you a few weeks ago about oil pressure. I pulled my cooler finallyand picked up about 10psi at 5k. Not great, but much better than before!

You are probably right. It's probably just the road and exhaust making the noise. I don't necessarily feel any shaking, just loudness.

Re oil cooler. They didn't replace along with new short block, because they couldn't find a new one and didn't want to risk using the used one.

I am watching my Oil pressure very carefyfully (naturually after losing my bottom end) and notice that the needle stays around 50 to 60 area.
