No Start.....Security Light

Just making sure I've got my ducks in a row. I've got a no start condition I need to fix ASAP as this just became my only mode of trans.

Key the ignition on, I get all my dash lights and accessories, with a solid security light. Key the car on and I get no cranking.

Vats?????

just disconnect the battery and reconnect it and you should be good to go. This has happened to me on several occassions due to the fact that I've had to replace my steering column.

Re: No Start.....Security Light

This happened to me the other day in my work parking lot. I fiddled with the remote lock/unlock and key on/off a bunch of times and eventually the problem went away

Not sure what caused it, and I'd like to know what fixes it for you. I would definitely try disconnecting the battery 1st. If nogo, VATS would be my next guess.

I had a '92 Camaro which had a VATS problem. I ended up measuring the resistance of the pill in the key and buying a resistor of the same value. Then I unplugged the VATS connector under the dash and jumped the wires with the resistor. Never had another VATS problem with that car again.

Thomas.

There are lots of VATS threads in the general tech forum.

Yeah, didn't try searching there. Didn't even occur to me actually. I cleaned the resistor chip in the key and got it to fire, looks like I'm not getting a great contact between the lock cylinder and key. Probably just going to bypass it this weekend, but thanks guys for confirming that I was on the right sheet of music.

Many times a new key also works if your key is getting old.

Worked for me.

THat's what I'm thinking about doing especially considering I only have one key for it to begin with.
