Where to buy a GM846?
Where to buy a GM846?
Where did the members of this board running the GM846 get their cam from? Does it come opti ready? When I looked up the part number on scoggin dickey the item description said nothing about the cam being for LT1 engines.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm really thinking about it though... cause I cant afford for my daily driver to break down. If my Z28 spins a bearing or something, I'd be in trouble cause fixing it would cripple me finanically.

GM parts direct has good prices, but the shippimg is through the roof. Use that same stock number, search it on Summit's site. It will show up, and I betcha it is cheaper than GM parts direct. Not to mention it will tell the application it is for.

I had first looked at the hotcam package. Its a good value, but decided if I'm gonna spend the money to do a cam swap, I'd be willing to spend a bit more to get something little bit bigger. I only want to do this once.
I then researched some of the comp XE grinds. The 224/230 was one I really looked into. I read a bunch of posts about the aggressive XE lobes being hard on the valvetrain. I'm not sure how much truth there is to this, but with my car being a daily driver I thought I'd look for something similar sized, but with more "conventional" lobes.
After more research, I thought I'd look into the Crane/GM 846 cam. Its pretty close in size to the XE 224/230. I'd expect it to put out similar power numbers to the XE cam, the difference would probably go unnoticed on the street. It also ought to theoretically be easier on the valvetrain.
So yeah... thats where my train of thought has been. I'm still thinkin it over... Hopefully, whatever cam I end up choosing will make me happy.

SteveO, looks like you have some nice cars in the family. Good luck with the cam project and remember to take your time and keep everything as clean as possible when your working on it.
