No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
I have a 96 Z28/SS that has just over 52k on it. I just recently purchased it so I cant really tell u much as far as major issues all I have are the reciepts the guy gave me and nothing as far as fuel pump or filter look to have been changed.
Now as for my problem, today I just filled up the tank from 1/4 and added some octane boost to my on base 91 pump gas. We dont always get the best gas on base but I have never gotten a nostart from it in any other camaro I have owned. Now I was in some thick traffic and the car was hot like any stock lt1s normal op temp. and it started to act like it was out of gas, eventually ending up with me pushing my preggo wife stearing. Then on the side of the road Id get it to turn over briefly, eventually it would just turn over and not even bump off. Makes me think fuel... maybe filter or pump. My guess would be filter with the miles on her but I have been reading some bad reviews of these pumps sucking.
Anything else to look for besides good pressure at the rail? I know my 99 Jeep had computer issues forcing me to hot wire the fuel pump.

Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
I believe the Throttle position Sensor code came from road side trouble shooting. I had disconnected the TPS thinking it could have been the initial problem as the peddle was not responsive. and as it was dying I could only lightly throttle it without engine stutter.(this leads me to fuel posibly)
Ok Im going out to get the PSI for the fuel rail.

Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
Ok I pugged into the fuel rail behind the pass side rail and got 0psi when initial connected and with key in on. I tried cycling the key a few times and it sounds like the relay is clicking but no pump sound.
On another note what is the solenoid sound when the key is placed in off?

Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
If you got 0 psi it has to be the pump (maybe something that supplies power to it too). I would say see if you are getting power at the pump with key on and if so change pump. Do fuel filter while at it...
Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
Ok thats pretty much where I was at with trouble shooting. I do not have a FSM(factory Service Manual) for the car yet, does anyone have a schematic for the pump? Like which wire is power ect... If I can find it say in a kick panel instead of dropping tank. which looks like a pita.

This may be of help, not sure.

As for a kick panel for getting to the pump -- a lot of people tend to cut an access panel above the tank in the hatch of the car. You can find out how to do that here: http://www.fastbird93.com/Installations/Racetronix.htm

Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
yeah, thats an awsome page, I got redirected there from another forum.
has the primer location for the fuel pump, the relay location and all.
I thought it may have been a heat related issue but this morning after all night cooling she still didnt kick off, nor have fuel pressure.
Now does the fuel pump have a limit to psi for it running? So if I threw 12v to he primer wire would it shut down if it had sufficient psi at the pump because of the filter being clogged?
Also should the primer wire have 12v when the key is on?
Man out of 5 camaros I have never had this type of problem....

Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
yeah zero at the rail, I disconnected from the back of the fuel filter and no pressure when key on there. I am going to grab a new filter anyway but I want to make sure its a pump and not bad ground or anything. It should be shooting fuel everywere though right with the key on?
Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
Threw 12v to the pump primer and nothing. Not even a spark sugesting a grounding issue. My guess is pump now, should the primer have 12v with key on?
Re: No Start Condition 52k Miles! Fuel pump?
The fuel pump prime connector does not supply 12v+. It only receives 12v via jumper wire to run the pump for diagnostic purposes. If you jumped a lead from the battery to the pump prime connector (the single lead in the engine bay) and the pump does not run, then you're out of luck and the pump is bad.
