No spark! Opti?

i just got the motor put back together with everything brand new but the opti and now it looks like after 223 miles that needs to be new as well. yesterday one of the wires to the elec water pump worked loss and the temp started to jump up. No biggy i shut the car down and pulled over, popped the hood fixed the wire and let the car cool down. Now comes the prob i get back in the car and all it will do is crank. Its getting fuel but theres no spark at the plugs or the coil and iv tried 2 different coils so my guess is the opti and it just happened to go when i shut the car down?
any thoughts before i go buy a new opti?
thanks

Re: No spark! Opti?

Maybe you blew a fuse when you had the wiring problem. Check easy stuff first.

Yeah...I second that. Check for blown fuses. Or you might try a Ingnition module before the opti. Opti's usually just dont go bad all of the sudden.

Re: No spark! Opti?

You put 2 different optis in, in one day ? You are fast ! My opti took a dump a few weeks ago and my car would turn over but not start. Ended up the crank sensor was blown. IF your opti cant tell your PCM that there are rpms then the pcm cant tell the icm/coil to send spark. Now , when my opti took the dump , it blew my pcm up. Find somewhere with a Tech2 or mastertech and see if it will interface with your pcm. If not you need a new pcm as well as opti IF, the opti crapped out. Also if you have an MSd 6a box and it went bad or has bad connections , it will prevent you from being able to start.

Never have heard of an opti taking out a PCM. Also, the crank sensor has nothing to do with providing spark on the LT1 and will not keep it from firing. It is for misfire detection only.

Re: No spark! Opti?

Have you replaced the ignition module? Located on the same mount as the coil.

Re: No spark! Opti?

ok Guys today i messed with the car some more, took the dash apart and disconnected the stupid clifford aftermarket alarm system thinking that it may be dissabling something in the ignition system. I must have moved something. Now when you turn the key the car doesnt do anything! the guages light but they dont move, and none of the warning lights come on like the should!?!?!?!?! My last guess is the VATS but iv never heard of it doing anything like this.
ANY IDEAS AT ALL?!?!?!?!?!?!
