no spark after new opti
no spark after new opti
i just replaced my opti and it fired up and ran for a few minuites, but right when i pulled out of the driveway it stalled. now im getting no spark. at the plugs. i put my friends new coil on and got nothing.
if i pull the coil wire off the opti and ground it should i get spark? or do i have to pull the coil wire off the coil side and ground it? if anyone has any ideas of what it could be it would be a great help.

It was the fuse under the hood in the fuse block on the drivers side. Sometimes you need to look a little further before you assume it's the hard things...........all that work for a fuse.
Re: no spark after new opti
After an engine swap I had the engine warming up and it died and did not start for 2 friggin days after. That is when I discovered one of the female pins in the opti end of the harness on top that runs to the passenger side of the intake was pushed up inside the plug a little too far. Definetely a feak thing but free to check.
Re: no spark after new opti
i checked the fuses and they were still good. i pulled the wiring harness plug from the opti and it looks like the prong on the red wire with the back stripe is pushed back a little farther than the rest. shouldnt i get spark at the coil even if theres no signal from the computer at the opti? i thought the spark starts at the coil then goes to the opti
Re: no spark after new opti
The pcm needs to see the opti spining in order for it to send the signal to the coil. I think you found your problem. I think I stuck a thin piece of wire in from the wire side in order to push the pin back out.
Re: no spark after new opti
does anyone know were i can get that wireing harness? i pushed that pin out that was pushed in and i still have no spark. the pins look a little corroded so i think it still might be that plug. is there any tests i can run to make sure thats what it is
Re: no spark after new opti
I would try to borrow one and test it out on the car. I priced one at one point and don't remeber what the price was but it was enough that I fixed the one I had instead of buying the new one.
Re: no spark after new opti
ok, we put the opti harness on my friends car and it fired rjight up, so thats not the problem. i think it might be the distributer its a remaned autozone. but it ran fine for like 5 minuites then it just died. does anyone else have any ideas of what it could be before i pull the opti again
