No oil at valvetrain???
No oil at valvetrain???
Just rebuilt my LT1 with new bearings and rings and XE 224/230 cam. Engine started up great and my 1.6 pro mag rockers were making quite the clacking noise. When I removed the valve covers to re-set the valve lash there was no oil underneath the valve cover and just a small amount of oil in the cylinder head - springs and rockers were dry. I re-set the lash started the engine with valve covers off and after about 30 seconds just a small amount of oil came out the top of the pushrod, but not enough to "squirt out" or to coat the rockers, springs etc. Oil pressure gauge is showing around 50 psi and no abnormal noises coming from engine. Engine has only been ran 5-10 minutes at idle since first startup. Do I need to rev engine to see if oil "squirts" out or does barely any oil get up to the valvetrain in general at idle??? Thanks for any insight!

It may take awhile to get a substantial amount of oil up onto the rockers. This is why you should pre-oil the valvetrain prior to starting.
I primed mine for a good 2 or 3 solid minutes until oil came out of the pushrods, and then lightly oiled the rockers and springs manually.

This morning I manually applied oil to the valvetrain and let engine get to operating temperture. Some oil was lightly coming out of each pushrod after a couple minutes and when I revved the engine to 2,000 rpm I could see more oil come out of the pushrods and some oil squirt on the headers. I guess I was under the impression that oil should be gushing out the pushrods and not just fling out. Thanks for quick replies!
