No muffler, bullett, or hooker???

I have a dynomax bullet muffler, its loud, but i kinda want louder, I love the popping sound when i let off the throttle, an older guy at my work has a 72 Nova with a Hooker aero chamber muffler and a 454 BB in it. He says my car sounds awful (manifolds, borla y-pipe, random tech. cat, bullet-split dual pipes) He says that popping is no good and i should try a hooker muffler, but i wanna try to just go with no muffler, what do you think? I just dont like the muffler look in the back. Thanks

i'd say you need some longtube headers and a muffler, i think the popping sounds like crap. you dont necessarily need a system to go over the axle, just weld in a 40 series flowmaster or a hooker aero chamber. i know a couple guys with setups like that and it sounds good.

I think rear pipe(s) are needed for emmissions. I can't get longtubes, i have a 2" drop and i hear that they will hang too low, i do plan on getting some Mac mid's later this year though, any one else?

A loudmouth resonator in place of that bullet muffler will be louder. The loudmouth resonator is completely hollow, where as the bullet muffler has something that looks like a grate or something in it.

Whats the difference in getting a resonator compared to a 3" pipe welded in its place?

I replaced loudmouth resonator with Borla XR-1 muffler (long one) and my sound improved a lot. It's still very loud, but much more clear sound. It's 5" diameter for 3" in/out, so it may be too big for your 2" drop. Maybe oval muffler will fit you best.
