Anyway, back on track....

Yes, you CAN loose power by taking the muffler off!!! It's called false knock. I can't believe that i'm the first person to mention this. The knock sensor MAY pick up the load exhaust as false knock. If it does, it will pull timing. I know this because my car does it when I open the cutout. Reving it to 6000 in park it pulls 17 degrees of timing. 3 degrees at 3000. OUCH! Yeah, im keepin the cutout closed, lol. Atleast untill I get the $40 for an LT4 KM.
Umm, not exactly acurate. Yes, you may pick up false knock with a cutout, if it is in the front of the car. If you cutout was by the back of the car, like right before the muffler inlet you should not. You will not get false knock by taking the muffler off, now if you cut off the whole exhaust and just have the y-pipe than you might. Basically, if you take the muffler off....make a tailpipe so it goes to the back of the car and you won't have any issues.

I will go home and try to find a time slip b/c that is the only way it seems that you will believe me. I know my car is faster than most LT1's. Maybe you think I'm a great driver when I think that I'm decent. Who knows, but my car did run those times with those mods, simple as that.

Well, I believe you, guess my LT's and 3,73 gears are a waste, you still run the same time, damn.

NO a LT-4 module WILL NOT take care of it.

Get the resistor from Radio Shack and install it. Do a board search it's all there in a number of post's.

Backpressure isn't good for anything, especially making HP-- get rid of it anyway ya can.

All engines need a certian amount of back pressure to run right. Yes you will pick up power and some torque on the top end, but you will loose like 10-15 ft lbs and a few HP on the bottom end. I'd rather have the power where I use it the most. Besides, where I live you get pulled over for open exhaust.

i'm calling bs. v8's run fine on a open exhaust! 4's and 6's seem to do better with some backpressure..

Re: No muffler=Lower HP????

I agree w/ what 1racerdude said about the km that guy know's what he's talking about I'm doing the same thing.

Backpressure is your enemy at tdc. Sometimes though when u add a muffler u can increase average backpressure but decrease it a tdc, so it actually helps. Long tubes move your torque band down lower. Remember you want below atm pressure at valve overlap to draw in that fresh charge. A cat or cats depend on how much they flow and how much hp your making. They can and often are a choke in exhaust system.

About the guy who can drive a stick I believe him!!!! Why I've seen guys knock off a whole SECOND w/ just suspension work. What amazes me is how many guys slap on mod after mod and don't take there suspenison into account, and then wonder why there car isn't makeing the et they want. Also take into acount a well setup track, cold night, altitute ect. ect...

To the guy that asked about the idle, it idles fine. Actually, I dont think it has ever idled smoother. I dont seem to have lost any power. I actually thought the first time I drove it after taking off the muffler that it seemed to have some more snap to it. Could have just been be though. But I could swear my seat of the pants meter was detecting a difference.

Its not BS, most motors need backpressure. Go get a stock 305/350 (not an LTX/LSX)put some LT headers with nothing else and it will run like crap. I have done it. No if the motor is built with a good cam/heads etc then its a different story.

BTW I have found a time slip from that night showing me I ran a 13.49@ 105.46. If any one can host it for me please do.

You will have to be carefull if you bypass you KM b/c if you were to get a bad batch of gas then you better be able to pick up knock with you ears before you hurt the motor.

I would like to do suspension work but I have no $$$ to do so, the MSD box was free, the exhaust I just cutoff and I cut the lid on the airbox.

MSD 6AL..............Free
Sawing off exhaust...........20 mins.
Cutting airbox..................10mins
Homemade ram air from house gutter tube.........yelling father along with 30mins

running a 13.4 @ 106 with a 155k LT1................Priceless.

Sorry I had to do that.

Re: No muffler=Lower HP????

I will tell you this, I have nitrous on my car and I noticed it ran faster NA after I started spraying it. Probly caused it "losened up" some things and cleaned out some carbon. BUt it still ran the 13.7 @ 104 before the spray.

Your problem..........LEARN HOW TO DRIVE! j/k j/k
It seems the higher mileage LT1 do better, maybe you past your prime? I dont know.
