LT1 Rebuild, What to do? (Bore, internals..)
LT1 Rebuild, What to do? (Bore, internals..)
Recently I bought an LT1 from a 1995 Corvette (4-bolt obviously) and I spent the last week or two taking it apart to the bare block. The bearings were pretty much shot, the cam had some kind of scarring on one of the lobes, but the rest seemed okay. I'm going to have a shop check everything out though.
Since I'm basically going to rebuild the whole thing to hopefully make 375-400RWHP with some of LE's heads and an LE cam, I'd like to get some suggestions. I don't really want to stroke it, but I've considered boring it out .030 or .040 over. A buddy says he did .060 over and ran into heating issues.
Summit has some full LT1 rebuild kits (bearings, rings, all gaskets, forged aluminum pistons, etc). Is there anything better out there for a decent price (this one was about $500).

Re: LT1 Rebuild, What to do? (Bore, internals..)
adding 5 cubic inches doesn't really add hp...
it's more the other parts you put in, namely cam.
most people do a 355 so that they can clean up the cylinders for new pistons.
i say 355, good internals and you'll have a nice solid engine

What are some good choices for rebuilt parts? Is the summit one I mentioned worth doing?
Is the stock crank and con rods capable of safely revving to ~6500 regularly? The cam that I talked to LE about should be making power to about that RPM...

Re: LT1 Rebuild, What to do? (Bore, internals..)
I used the summit kit with the forged pistons. I have a stock crank with different I beam rods that i bought from the machine shop that is supposed to be good enought to spray 150 on top of. I rev to 6500 all the time and everything still seems to be in working order. This is my daily driver that I am very happy with.
