NO EGR on a 97???

Okay, by the end of the month I should be ready to do headers and cat-back on my 97 LT1. I'm going to be running Mac headers(94-95 single cat), Offroad pipe, 02sims, and a Borla cat-back (94-95 single cat). I've heard that sometimes a free flowing exhaust system like this will set off the ses light due to the EGR system. Is there any way to remove the egr on a 97 or possibly simulate it, or should I just wait and see what happens? I figure that once I put my car away for storage in december, I'll just order a OBDI set-up programmed for my mods and then I should be able to remove that egr system, right?
Thanks for the help!

dont forget that you will need to have some type of pipe to hook the exhaust ipipe to the ypipe. I did the 94-95 style macs with 94-95 hooker exhaust and it was about a foot too short. so i took the bullet muffler that came off my old exhaust and used it. Alittle off topic but I didnt want you to be in that situation.

I plan on running an off-road pipe, wouldn't that connect the y-pipe to the cat-back??? I've been told that it will work.

When I did a similar swap to SLP 94 style with a stock single cat I got an SES 0400 for the EGR afterward. I kept getting it off and on until I got it programmed out. With no cat I would bet you will get the code. If you are planning to switch to OBDI later in the year I would just leave the EGR hooked up and deal with the light for a while until you switch.

are you using the off road ypipe that comes with the MACs? That is what I used but it was short of reaching the catback. I initially thoght that it would fit because nobody said that it would be too short. But it definetly was. If you use some other off road pipe then it might reach.....im not sure about it though.

Edit: IF you are using another pipe along with the ypipe then it should work. The ypipe alone will not reach the catback.

Yeah,
I'm buying the mac off-road pipe that is supposed to connect between the y-pipe and a cat-back exhaust sytem, not an off-road y-pipe.
As for the OBDI progrmamming, who's the cheapest and best for this? I noticed madz28 is like $225 for an OBDI pcm conversion, is that a good deal? How bad will my car run if I run it with the egr problem for like 4months? And after I install this new computer, is it possible to simply remove the egr and air systems?
Thanks

I ran mine for about that long while getting the EGR code off and on. I noticed a stumble around 2000 rpm when cruising in 6th only. I later removed both and had them programmed out and I have OBDII, I don't think you even have to program them out with the OBDI switch.
