No Cats Possible to pass emissions???

I heard of people doing it? I gutted mine and was wondering if I would pass? I think I might be able to have a cut out open too.

O contrare, I have seen a fairly stock 94 t/a pass emissions w/no cat. Guess he just got lucky. I almost passed w/out one, but all I would have needed was a leaner program in my car. But, it has been done.

Do you guys think you could pass with the AIR pump and EGR still hooked up, or would that not make a difference?

If it is just a sniffer and not a visual its 50/50. Just for ***** and giggles the tester and I wanted to see how bad my car would be with the "off-road" pipe, and surprisingly enough I passed the sniffer portion of the test. But without a cat there is no way I could pass the visual in CA.

A good running car will pass the sniffer, provided you're not running a huge cam or anything. With just basic bolt ons my car passed by a pretty good margin with no cat.

I was trying to decide when I get LT's to have the air and egr still hooked up. But I am going to just ditch all the emission crap

When i first got my car, i had to get it inspected. My car only has 1 cat, and it was completly gutted and I passed the sniffer with no problem the guy said. Thats in NJ, pretty advanced type test, idle sniffer, and then they bring it to 3000 rpm on a roller type dyno lookin thing and use the sniffer. I was surprised.

If you can re-flash your PCM yourself, anything can pass the sniffer, no cat, no egr, etc. Just make it run clean and if the O2's are working, the PCM should do its jobs to keep the AF right where it should be. If your cam has a high degree of overlap of intake and exhaust, then no EGR is required..like on the LT4's.

I'm in the same boat. I just bought a 94 Z28, and I have suspicions that the cat has been hollowed out (previous owner did not say, and I forgot to ask). I can definitely smell a "richer" exhaust than what one would expect from a stock exhaust, but I wonder if my nose and the emissions test equipment are similarly calibrated. What I mean is, for any of those of you who have passed without a cat, could you tell a difference in the smell of the exhaust?

If it makes your eyes burn and water, its too rich and probably no cat. If it seems like most other vehicles, then your are pretty close if not ok. I notice mine if its in a garage where there's not much ventilation...but don't run it for more than 30 secs or so, doesn't take much to suffocate you..make sure the engine is up to operating temp when testing.
