next mod

Alright I just got my header leak fixed for good, finally. Anyways I am unsure on my next mod. I need something that is done fairly easily...easier than my headers preferrably. and as for price anything less than $500. I have a race coming up against an 03 or 04 evo 8 :0. It is stock and I might be able to get him to start from a roll. I really want to beat this little highschool punk so what do you think I should get?

How about something to help traction - lower control arm relocation brackets. The bolt-on ones are very easy to install.
Roller rockers and electric water pump are other fairly easy and inexpensive mods.

I was going to suggest that too, but I didn't figure he wanted his 2nd next mod to be a new rearend

If he doesn't get crazy with the high rpm clutch drops, it should hold together decently. But a factory 10-bolt is always iffy. Also, they fall under 500 bucks and are an easy mod to do. Furthermore, a race with an AWD EVO, he'll need all the traction opportunities he can get.

Cut-out and mail-order tune will net you at least another 20HP. If you go from a roll figure out where your sweet spot is in first gear. I imagine it would be pretty low as mph goes. I just wouldn't want to start out in 2nd gear and make the 2-3 shift my first shift.

What exactly is a cut-out? and thanks for the advice on the tune I'm going to try and get it dyno tuned. I think I might also get a short throw shift just because I really dont like the stock one. thanks for all the suggestions.

A cut-out is almost like a small y-pipe that gets welded into your I pipe. There is a spot right before the exhaust pipe goes over the axle under the rear passenger seat that is perfect for it. The exhaust will flow the regular way when it's closed, and when you uncap the other section the exhaust goes out there, before having to go through the rest of the exhaust pipe and muffler. Also, with your mods you do not need an expensive dyno-tune. A mail order will be just fine.

thanks for all the advice...but since I got my car running again it's been surging at low rpm's and gets worse as I get into higher gears. I already changed the fuel filter and that didn't fix it. I've heard it might be the Opti but I don't want to spend the money if thats not the problem. I had my pcm tuned already but I might take it back to the place and have them retune it cuz I started haveing the problems after it was tuned.

i would make sure your ignition is at the top of its game, also buy seafoam from autozone, like 7 bucks, and clean out your fuel system with it. pour the whole can in with almost 3/4 tank and it will help by the time you fill up again. just my .02
