Newbie Launching Question

Ok, so I picked up my '93 6-Speed Z last week. This is my first stick car, so I am still getting used to it. Last night I ran my friends 3rd gen (a 220hp auto iroc). Still being uncertain as how to run a stick car from the line, I decided to rev it to only 2k and dump the clutch. To my shock, all I did was spin, and spin, and spin. It took me a good 4-5 seconds before I hooked. Now, my tires are bad, but I didnt know they were that bad. My question is, am I doing something wrong when I drive, or is it just that I need a new set of threads?

Re: Newbie Launching Question

i pretty much had the same condition when i got my car
i raced my cousin's civic si and spun all of first gear really then finally hooked on 2nd
still beat him though
but i just got some kumho 712's which is definately helping
also, wait til you drive it a little more also, you'll really start learning to feel the clutch and how much power you have before you start slipping
just remember, everytime you take a ride in your car, always focus on it and always be ready to make adjustments so you can get the best launch (even at stop signs sometimes for me)
you'd be surprised how much it helps if you focus really hard on it a lot
good luck
