NEWBIE: Gotta love Paydays

Okay, so a newbie got paid. I have been researching, I found some good sound clips.

Things to consider first of all:
1) I am in college, living on a college budget.
2) This is my 70,000 original mile daily driver
3) I am a good driver and can respect the power this car puts out
(Although it is not a 1/4 mile monster like some of you guys)

I recently bought Pacesetter LT's with an ORY.
I also purchased a NX Wet Kit with a window switch and a TPS switch. I have it jetted to a 100 shot, but it isnt hooked up right now.

I have heard good and bad things about the Hotcam, but decided to go with it. I also looked for some valve springs and have come up with zilch.

I'm looking to buy some 1.6 RR, springs, and the cam. Anything else I am missing?

And is this setup pretty good?

If you guys could comment on my setup and what springs to get as a bonus that'd be great, but if this is a retarded setup, let me know that too. I obviously will be against dumping the nitrous...I got it for $200 with a full bottle.

Well, I haven't gotten anything yet soooo....

I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be ebaying anything if I was making a newbie mistake.

What are some cheap places to get the hotcam kit??

Im hoping someone chimes in, but if you dont want to make any newbie mistakes then it might be benificial to talk to some of the board members that have experience with custom grinds. A custom designed cam would probably get you more power and better driveability.

What are some custom grinds that are good?

I know exactly squat about custom grinds...I have nitrous, but a baby shot, and am not looking for anything more than just a mild to mild-moderate grind since I most likely will not be buying heads in the near future. And when I do, it will be after an internship so getting a new cam won't hurt the bank.

A good mild-moderate cam suggestion anyone?

What springs and RR's?

And just how hard are NSA RR's to install??

Oh yeah, so far as someone chiming in....it IS 2:40 in the AM here in Missouri.
So no hard feelings for not everyone being awake to answer my Newbie ?'s

Re: NEWBIE: Gotta love Paydays

the hotcam is a good setup, good drivability, however still noticable at idle.

i think most guys get 330-350rwhp with the cam and rockers with bolt ons and a tune. obviously depending on the other mods, particular engine and a4/m6.

however from years of reading about the hotcam...the most common thing i see is "the hotcam is too small...suggest me something bigger"

alot of guys run the cc305 with good results on stock heads. maybe look into that.

as for springs...the ones that come with the hotcam kit are good. or just go for a set of comp cam 918 springs. they are good for .600" lift and are not horribly expensive.

maybe check out the cam kits available from the sponsors. call thier tech lines and see what they suggest.

and there are others...

Re: NEWBIE: Gotta love Paydays

If you want to do a cam and are not looking for crazy power i would do the hotcam. YOu wont gain a whole lot from a 305 cam...not enough imho to be worth all the extra parts you have to buy.
