Newbie

hi guys

im really new to this whole preformence car thing lol. But i may be getting a lt1 short block minus the intake and i want to take it apart and rebuild it. But i really dont knwo where to start to make power real good i would like to keep it as cheap and as streetable as possiable i know thats hard. But i really dont know how fast as far as e/ts i wanna go. if truth were know id love to blow my buddys 347 mustang outta the water but i dont know how much that would cost. i really was thinking 383 stroker motor with mabye some ported heads and bulletproof everthing so it dont brake. i really dont know much about cams so i dont knwo what to do there. tell me what u think is the best way to do this and how hard it really is and stuff like that thanks.

Re: Newbie

Need to figure out how much horsepower you're looking for out of the motor and we can go from there.

Re: Newbie

Hey buddy. If u just want to go mid 12's on motor then youll just need a full bolt-on cammed engine. U didnt mention whether or not u have an auto or 6 speed. If its an auto then get a good stall converter to match the cam u pick. I just bought a cc305 cam and I have pretty much full bolt-ons plus a stall and nittos and i plan on going at least mid 12's. As for cams i suggest a hotcam or the cc305 if u want something pretty street friendly with great power gains. If u want something a little more powerful then go with the cc306 or a comparable camshaft. U dont need a forged stroker to have a fast car. If u still dont have enough power to beat the Mustang just get a nitrous kit. How much power is this Mustang puttin out?? Basically to wrap everything up, a mild cam and bolt-ons can get you mid 12's and keep your car very streetable. If you have anymore specific questions, just ask. Peace, Dustin.

Re: Newbie

Sorry, just a query... all that you have is Moroso C.A.I and SLP Loudmouth catback and running 13.6?

That's cool, is this typical of stock AT LT1's? (I visited your cardomain site, saw the auto-shifter)

Just CAI and catback can net 13's?

Sweet...

Re: Newbie

Well, if u want to go the "see HOW much power I can make" route. Erase the fact that u got a motor for cheap bc your going to have to replace all of those internals and have machine work done to the block if u want a stroker. Your gonna be looking at atleast a couple grand for parts and machine work.

Re: Newbie

Well if u have the cash and u know what your doing then i say go for the stroker. Most people go with the 383 stroker, forged crank, rods and pistons. As for heads i would just have a good port and polish job done. It would be cheaper to build a bad-*** 355 but the stroker will offer more torque. Your going to probably need a 12 bolt rear end or at least a T/A cover to keep from grenading the rear end at the track, it would take much, especially since your going to need prolly E.T. streets to hook up. U jsut need to look around at some cams and read up on them and make a decision on exactly what u want out of the car. Peace, Dustin.

Re: Newbie

The power is in the heads and valvetrain primarily. The intake system and the exhaust are the second area to concentrate. As far as rebuilding the shortblock, parts selection will depend on the intended use and budget. What exactly do you plan to use the car for?
