Ok im new here..I have a 96 trans am with LE2 heads and a GM847cam. i want to keep the whole top end I have..but want to safely add a 150 shot. Can I rebuild the engine with forged I beam rods, some good JE nitrous pistons..and the stock crank. Question is will the engine hold up to a 150 shot (seeing normal to high street use) track use maybe once or twice a year) without blowing up? I plan on spinning the engine to 6500rpms. Anyone?

 

assuming it's all balanced, you wont have a problem spinning it to 6500. on the nitrous part, you will be fine, as long as you follow some general safety guidelines. 1-get a fuel pressure safety switch 2- work your way up to 150 shot 3- retard the timing and get a delay box as well as a reliable WOT switch. retarding the timing is where you need to be careful, as you know i'm sure. talk to some nitrous experts on the use of timing boxes and such. I'm not framiliar with any retard boxes on the current market.

 

well i had a 93 with 120k and i sprayed 100 shot on it..almost a bottle a week..then i went through about 6-8 bottles of 150 shot with no problems. I know I could spray a 150 shot on this engine..if it didnt have heads/cam..but yeah if i do the 150 shot...it will be setup proper..just wondering if anyones done it..and if it can hold up without blowing..cuz i know heads/cam with 150 shot on a stock bottom end..wont last too long.

 

This is my exact setup. Just get a good ignition box to control the nitrous and you're good to go. Mallory #685 is a great box. I've got one for sale for cheap but I'll be gone for the next week. Went with coilpacks so I can't use it anymore.

I spray 200 and shift at 6700.
