New wheels = Need new gears
I need some help which gear choices. Right now I have 20" wheels and 40series tires and 3.42 stock gears.
I was going to buy the Thunder Racing 4.10 gear package, with the girdle, install kit etc.
I would like to regain my lost power due to the wheel/tire size diffrence and would like to know if 4.10's would be sufficient.
Gas milage etc need not apply
Basicly will 4.10 gears more then compensate for the size change? I would like it to feel stronger then stock (lack of better wording)
I have a M6 btw,
Thanks in advance

Also should I get Motive gears or Strange gears?
I was just going to get the Motive gears, I really dont know the diffrence. I have heard the Strange gears tend to whine more? I could be wrong.
Thanks again

Using a heavy, large diameter wheel costs you power because of the HP absorbed in bringing the wheel up to speed. Its a matter of inertia, and moving the rim and tire mass further from the axle increases the power absorbed.
Changing the rear gears will not "regain" the lost power.... it will simply cover up the fact that you have lost it by giving you more torque at the rear wheels.
And that would be the case if you were using wheels and tires of the same outside diameter. By using 40 series tires on 20" wheels you have rear tires that are at least 2" larger in diameter than the stock tires - e.g. 245/40-20 = 27.7" vs 25.66" stock. So your 3.42's have been emasculated to the equivalent of 3.16's. Going to 4.10's will be roughly the same as the rest of us going to 3.73's..... but you will still be losing the HP due to the inertia required to bring the wheels/tires up to speed.
Seems like you need to decide whether you are after "appearance" or "performance". Not necessarily compatible objectives.
