Question new waterpump wont idle

My waterpump started making a noise a week or so ago that told me it was on its last leg. So not wanting it to fail and kill my opti I changed it out with a new waterpump. I filled it up and started the car only to discover it wont idle. The engine almost dies....car shakes....even had a little backfire. So does anyone know whats wrong??

Did you spill any coolant on the opti crap? If you didn't, and the opti is ok, then maybe you boogered the install or maybe if the pump was a rebuilt it wasn't any good and is dragging down the rpms. Obviously I don't know, but if its was the pump that was bad to begin with, and you didn't kill the opti, I don't know what else to suggest at this time.

a few things to check

did u spill any coolant on the optic when u did the install (as stated above)

Is is leaking on the opti now? (bad gasket or not cleaned all the way)

did you plug back in the MAF? plug back in everything else?

try unplugging the battery for about 5 min and giving her a try.

well car is running great now........ended up correcting itself after a few min or running and figure it was just wet......the strange sound from the waterpump ended up being my mistake. I bled the system with the car on jackstands and forgot it should be level. Thanks for the help guys
