???

Both myself and Robert95z are using the GM guideplates that you mention. They are part number 14011051. You can them in my first picture at the beginning of this thread. You are correct though, the Comp Cams guideplates are not correct.

I have the LT4 knock module and a programmed PCM from MadZ28 that also makes the PCM less sensitive to knock.

Yes. It is really easy to feel that point of initial resistance. You have the
polylock that will increase resistance and at the exact same time the push
rod will show resistance. I look for that initial point when the push rod goes
from freely spinning to just a hint of resistance to spinning. The cover mod
is not too bad either. I just cut off the "L" in the support with my dremel tool
in the area of conflict. I can take a picture of my stock cover if you want
since they are no longer on the car. The same info is out there and you may
already have links to it.

Yes, I just made a thread regarding the valve cover mod. I finally found the link on the internet that I remember reading before.

Thanks though.

Incedible looking valvetrain, I hope to have that done soon, its next on the list. This thread is very informative, since I know very little on valve lash etc, which is something I worry about screwing up installing them myself. Lets see the gains! If you dont mind me asking how much did the whole kit cost you and where did you find most of your parts? Thanks, and have fun, I am awaiting a review of the gains.

Update sig!

Thanks Dustin.

I won't be able to get the gains until probably March/April time frame. The car is in the garage for winter. Hopefully we'll have a dyno day here like last spring. Then I'll see what gains I got.

Here's the rundown on the cost:
Rockers and studs $280 shipped
GM guideplates: $24 shipped
Pushrods: $35 shipped
Springs, retainers, and locks Bought them used from truedualws6. You can get everything new for around $50 shipped

So about $390 total.

Re: New Valvetrain is going in. Picture of goodies.

Well, it's all done. Took me 6 hours total.

Fired it up. Runs Great! First impressions:

I'm surprised how quiet it is. I was thinking that it would sound much louder than stock, but that's not the case at all. I'm not sure it's any louder than stock to be honest. Maybe a little louder, but certainly normal sounding.

I adjusted the lifters to 3/8 turn lash, so basically right between 1/4 and 1/2 turn.

I can't believe how easy it was to set the preload on the lifters. Zero lash turned out to basically be the point where the polylock hit the rocker when turning it down the stud. It was at that point that the pushrods started to drag when trying to spin them. I then went 3/8 more turn and locked them down. I did the method on Shoebox's site where you adjust half of the valves with the crank at 12:00, and then turn the crank a full turn and adjust the other half. Worked great!

Re: New Valvetrain is going in. Picture of goodies.

Dan,

Glad to hear everything went well. You should see somewhere in the neighborhood
of 10-15 rwhp gain with the 1.6 rockers. I'll be out in the garage this afternoon
resetting the lash myself. With all the other changes I have made, it's now back
to the basics, and resetting the Comp Rs is a good place to start. I will shoot
for 1/16 turn, which is what Mindgame said in a post a while back. In hindsight
I should have stuck with the stock lifters, but it's too late now, so I need to get
the Rs working. If this does solve my problem it will time for a large serving of crow.

If you want to get technical about it, the amount of turn for "ideal" lash is gonna depend on which studs are you running.... 3/8 or 7/16?
They both have a different thread pitch, 3/8-24 and 7/16-20. So, the 3/8-24 is going to need a little less than 1/16th of a turn for .002 and ~1/10th of a turn for .004. That vs the 7/16-20 stud's 1/25th of a turn for .002 and ~1/13th of a turn for .004. If you're **** about all this then save yourself some troble and use a dial indicator and measure actual plunger travel at the retainer. Or just stick with 1/16th of a turn and call it good.

Thanks Mike.

Hope your problem is just having your lash set wrong. Looks like you should only go to with 1/25 of a turn, since you have 7/16" studs right?

I took a video of the sound under the hood, and the exhaust. This sounds normal right? I'm surprised how quiet it is. It idles great, and revs up just fine.

Re: New Valvetrain is going in. Picture of goodies.

Sounds just like mine, almost exactly. I just finished setting my lash and really
don't know what the setting is, but it's as close to zero as possible. Instead of
trying to go 1/16 or 1/25 turn I just found zero and then tightened the lock. It
seemed closer to 1/32, but may be a tad more. I can't do a road test because
it's raining. It will have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday.
