Just wondering, I have almost the same set-up. What are you doing for valve covers? Do you know if the stock ones can be modified to work? Thanks.

They can be made to work, just d a search and I'm sure you'll find some thing as how exactly to modify them.

Thanks guys.

Sounds great Robert95z. Looks almost identical to mine.

I'm not putting a cam in yet because I'm still a little leary of spinning a bearing.

Plus, it's a fair amount of work more than what I'm changing. I'll be mostly done with this in a few hours.

Yes, mine is a daily driver too. At least it is in the spring summer fall months. In the winter is sits in the 'ol garage. Daily driving a vehicle really isn't a reason not to put a cam in, in my opinion. If you are worried that you would spin a bearing, and have no car to drive in the meantime, I totally understand, but you can get a VERY streetable cam and lose almost no fuel efficiency with the right cam setup. (GM 845, Crane 210/224, CC304...)

IF you plan on going with a cam later and it's anything bigger than the hotcam you are going to have to change springs again...i would suggest just go ahead and get the ex-612 springs from combination motorsports...everything you need is only $109 and i just put them on last week! They are very nice and don't require any head machining! They handle up to .600 lift which is enough to handle as big as the GM 847!

Dan,

Looks great! Those baggies look familiar. LOL

I'm looking forward to hearing your results. I have experimented with the
lash on the stock lifters and they are very forgiving. I even ran 1.25 turns
for a while and it ran great. I would think somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2
turn would be fine. Good luck.

Well, it's all together now. I just need to adjust the rockers and modify the stock valve covers.

Wasn't that bad of a job at all. Much better than doing headers, that's for sure.

Here's a few pictures along the way:

A couple of old rockers left

Old Studs still on, new LT4 springs in

New 7/16" studs and GM guideplates

New Pro Magumns are in!

Thanks Mike. I was going to drop you a note to let you know that the springs were going in, but looks like you got to me first. You can see them in the pictures above. Look familier?

I think I'm going to go around 3/8 of a turn, especially with the rougher thread spacing of the 7/16" studs, that's probably closer to 1/2 turn on stock 3/8" studs.

Is it me, or is it REALLY easy to tell where zero lash is with these rockers/polylocks. Seems like it's basically the point where the polylock meets resistance when it hits the rocker. Then set preload. Is that right?

Re: New Valvetrain is going in. Picture of goodies.

not to split hairs here. but the last time i checked the only "good" guide plates for the lt1 were made by gm due to a .050 difference in valve spacing from a regular sbc. isky also makes one that will work but it has to be adjusted and then welded solid. i've seen several cases of the comp guide plates ending up with a groove worn out of them after some use. just a heads up on things i've seen. also i didnt see any mention of an lt4 knock module which was used by gm on the lt4 to avoid getting false knock from the rocker noise.
