New top end at 136k?

Well I think I blew a head gasket so I'm pulling the heads. My car has 136k on the odometer. Is that too many miles for a head rebuild and hotcam kit? I just got the driver side head off and I can still see the crosshatch in all the cylinders and there is no lip at the top of the cylinders. I have ran Mobil 1 in the car since I bought it with 30k on the odometer. What do you all think? It never has burned oil either.

My engine had no problems whatsoever, but I did a heads/cam swap @ about 120k miles. Nearly 20k & 2 years since, and it's still running great...

Re: New top end at 136k?

I am installing 94-95 RK Sport headers and y pipe, SLP loudmouth, 3" carsound cat, Hotcam kit, Edelbrock 52mm TB, new opti, water pump, and am planning on having the pcm reprogrammmed by pcmforless as well as having the heads freshened up at a local machine shop. Any guesstimates on power output? I wonder how long my original 136k auto trans is going to last?....

My tranny just went out at 128K, I now have about 131K on my car. Then again i had a shiftkit in it and I broke a band. I love my new tranny though, snaps necks man.

I put a new top end in mine at 130k. Car now has 154k and I haven't had any problems. Sounds like your engine has been taken care of and is in good shape so I say go for it.

From the research I have done, it is a 50/50 chance that you will spin a rod bearing. Mine was perfectly fine, ran really good, then I ported and polished the heads and dropped in a hotcam kit. Then BAM.....500 miles later I had a spun rod bearing. If I had it to do all over again, I would have took a little extra time and threw in new bearings and rings.

Save a bit more and you can have a complete rebuild and heads and cam for not much more...IMO I wouldnt do anything until a rebuild w/ those miles...but thats just me
