I know that is excessive, but i dont understand why. I installed it properly, cam gear at 6 o'clock and big one at 12. It went on easy, not like i stretched it when putting it on. Should i just get another one from AutoZone? They had to special order the one they gave me. I haveto start putting this motor together, my car is sitting about 5 feet off the ground im my garage.

If the block's had any machine work done to it, i.e. line boring, or splayed mains, anything to mess with the crank journals, then it could cause it to be a little more loose, but not too substantial, I just went with an aftermarket one the machine shop got for me....

I had this happen too. Due to the machining for the splayed caps, the centerline of my crank was raised slightly. I had to get a .010 shorter chain to compensate. Cloyes has special part numbers for .005, .010, and .020 just for this. (If you are running an electric WP that is)

Re: New timeing chain is loose.

Only thing ive done to the motor is springs, cam, timeing chain, and headers.(It is out of the car now) I pulled it from a 95 and it was all stock. I put the new timeing chain on, and its just about if not more loose then the stock one with 58k miles on it. I just don't understand. Im going to call AutoZone tomorrow, hopefully they gave me the wrong one or something. Everyone knows how they do that.

Re: New timeing chain is loose.

How loose Eric? Mine isint quite 1/2 inch but its damn close. Not loose enough for me to pull the chain off without the pulleys but with i 6k rpm spin you never know. I just dont want to crank the bitch over when i put it back together and find out i haveto take it all apart again. It's allready been a pain in the *** with the motor out of the car. I couldint imagine with it in.
