New/Reman. Opti's, big differance in quality?

Is there a big differance in these units? or is it a 'you get what you pay' for deal? I already went with a new GMPP unit because my cap and rotor were shot and the optical trigger had oil all inside of it. Just wanted to know if anyone had used trhe cheaper alternative and got decent results.

Re: New/Reman. Opti's, big differance in quality?

The reason why I had asked is that I have a long time friend that sells autoparts for a living, and he said the house brand of reman'ed opti's from his store were garbage, he also told me that since the beginning of the year there had been 3 returned because the brand new rotor inside decided to detonate and tuen to snad but he said he couldnt vouch for remanufactured stuff at other autoparts stores. Like i said, after that advice i just went with a new unit.

I cobbled together a reman optical portion from autozone and a vented delco cap and rotor kit with the vent plugged on my 94 and it has about 27k on it so far with no problems.
The key to mine not blowing up may be the GM cap and rotor.

I wouldnt go with anything except a Gm unit due to the fact that Gm themselves couldn't design/build them well, let alone an aftermarket parts manufacturer. Seriously though, my philosophy is you get what you pay for when it comes to electronics and ignition. Going cheap could be very costly down the road.
