New Rear ?'s

Alright, its about time for a new rear in my 95 z. I can get all the proper parts and bearings pretty cheap so its not a big deal, my question was about installation. Someone told me that anyone can line the gears up but only a "specialty" shop could properly install them. How true is this? Can i take it over to a local mechanic and have it done, can i bring it to my cousin who is a very good mechanic. or should i consider a place that specializes in this kind of work, this question is lame but be gentle. THANKS!!

A good mechanic should be able to handle the job. Just make sure he has some experience with rearends & a depth setting tool. I am just an amature & I have done several gear swaps. They are not really hard if you have the right tools & some patience.

Well... I did mine with the guidence of a friend of the family who's done them before, and now that I figure out one little problem that we did, the rearend is perfect. Infact if I got the tools i could do them myself with quite a bit of confidence. Any mechanic who has done them before can set them up if they know what they are doing. But of course a driveline specialist will probably be able to do it "better", but you're going to pay more as well.
