Talking New project...How hard to put an LT1 in this.......

An late model RX7

Theres a guy with one around here that kinda ragged and what not.

Ive heard its been done on the older pre 93 RX7's but not the newer ones.

Can it be done and how hard would it be? What all would be required?

Id love to have a very very quiet RX7 with a hotcammed LT1 M6 and 3.73's

A hotcammed LT1 would be alot like an LS1 in those cars, probably better.

If you have an LT1 laying around, then i'd go for it. If you're still engine swapping, i'd get the LS1, since it keeps the weight ratio 50/50

Better read this first, and there's plenty more dirt on Grant Robbins (Granny's Speed Shop) on torquecentral.com.

Bottom line, Grant still doesn't have an LT1 kit that works 100% in the FD (1993-1995 RX-7) and forget about an LS1. Brian Hinson is the best source for the LS1 conversion parts currently, but I will be building one LS1 variation on my new LT1 cradle for someone, and I'm currently building a kit to use a Cobra 8.8" IRS differential in the FD. Details here...

My on-going project thread (all 71 pages of it) is located here...

Just FYI, if you want anything but 3.90s, 4.10s, 4.33s, or 4.70s, you're going to need something like my Cobra 8.8" conversion kit. There are no lower ratio gear sets than the 3.90s that came in the automatic FDs.

Personally, I would go with an LT1 powered FC RX7 (the model before the FD). They don’t look as cool as the FD’s but they are just as light and the conversion is WAY cheaper and WAY easier. It’s closest you can come to a direct bolt in.

I’m pretty much set on an LT1 powered FD as my next project.
