new piston rings?

new piston rings?

i bought a car for parts and tore the engine apart and found no cylinder rigde. the car read 155k on the odometer i was told if it wasnt burning oil not to replace the rings anyone ever had the same situation

Remember the ridge is about 1/4" down the bore, not at the top edge. It's where the rings stop traveling up.

Do a compression check, and if it's good then you're probably okay if you really don't want to change them.

If it was me, since the engine is apart, a machine shop will usually only charge about $40 or less to remove the ridge and hone the cylinders, then a new set of performance rings will cost you about $75 or so.

So for about $115, you won't have to worry about them for another 150K miles.

it was measure and only has a 1/2 of a thousands tapper from the top to the bottom of the cylinder
