new opti now timing to high?

new opti now timing to high?

just installed a new opti now my car runs rough.it idels rough and the valves chatter on a load it seems like the timing is to high is that possible?

What brand opti did you install? The MSD unit has a timing adjustment screw.

Also, check for crossed spark plug wires.

its a brand new acdelco from allignition on ebay the wires are'nt crossed done checked.

On an ACDelco unit, there is no adjustment so if the timing is off, you have the new unit indexed wrong. You'll need to remove it and reinstall.

you cant index it wrong it only goes one way.

Actually, with a bit of pressure, you can push the dowel into any one of the three holes. It is a very common problem.

But.... the cam would be 120 deg off with a one hole offset, or 240 crank degrees, so it probably wouldn't even start if it was that far off.

I didn't notice his model year. For my 94, we all know it could obviously be off just a little if it is forced on. My bad.
