New, with a new LT1, and questions

This is my fist time posting on this board, I've been looking around this board for the last month, ever since I bought my new toy.
I bought a 1997 Formula, it has a 6 speed, 3.42 rear end, it has T-tops and all the power options. It has 87,000 kms on it (that’s 54,000 miles for all you Americans) and it's completely stock, for now.
As soon as I sell some of my other cars I plan on starting the mods, but I'm new to computer controlled performance world, so I've been doing alot of research on this board, it's been very helpful. Anyways these are my planed mods:
-SLP headers (single cat style) with O2 simms
-Hooker Cat back
-Probably some ignition stuff since I'll have access to the spark plugs when I do the headers
If I sell all my cars I'm planning on supercharging it, just a low boost one, probably 6lbs, I don't want to blew my motor and I've been reading all about the ringland problems with too much boost.
I was originally going to do a heads and cam package and long tube headers, but my local performance shop told me that a supercharger was the way to go because of the strict emissions law where I live. I told him I wanted a CC305 cam and he told me about a Trans Am sitting outside with the same cam that can't pass the emission test. So that’s why I'm leaning towards boost.
This is probably getting long so I'll end it here, I would like some feedback about my planned mods, and if a supercharger is a good idea.
Thanks
Jonathan

Thumbs up

If your gonna put headers and catback, I would also put a CAI [Cold Air Intake] then you can really let that engine breath and maximize your new exhaust.

I'd definitely go with some Jet-Hot LT headers instead of the SLPs. They are much more of a pain to install but you can still pass emissions with them and they make alot more power. The Hooker catback is a good choice, I love mine. Have fun with the car, it sounds great. BTW, how much did you pay for it?

Agreed.. Also Shorty's are decent instead of LT's if you have strict emissions.

I forgot about the CAI, that was part of my plan too. I think I'll stick with the shorties, I have to fight with emissions with my other cars and I'm tired of it.
I paid $16,000 cdn (about $12,000 American) for it, I think I got a pretty good deal on it, I haven't seen another car in the shape mine is in for that cheap. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing, I was actually going to wait till I sold my other cars and buy a used C5, but I saw this car and bought it that day, I figured I could use the money from my other cars to make it faster than a C5.

sounds just like mine did when i found it. around the same mileage and bone stock. ****, it stayed stock for about maybe a week and a half of reading on here.

I would think that with the proper computer tuning, the cam should be able pass emissions. You might want to e-mail pcmforless. Also, where do you live? - your location is blank.

people here have gotten a CC306 to pass emissions, theres some other reason that guy can't get a mild cam like the CC305 to pass.

Boost + stock internals = limited life span...the compression on these motors is just too high, and you run into detonation which destroys the stock Hypereutectic pistons in short order.

If your really worried about emissions, you need to stick with 96-97 style headers, as they are going to fail you for only having 1 cat with the 94-95 style. go headers, CAI, cat-back, good heads, mild cam like the CC305 or LT4 HOT cam (check around, theres a few other cams people have been having GREAT success with), and if thats not enough throw a quick N2O shot on it. If your willing to rebuild the motor with stronger internals/lower compression then go with the boost.

I think I'll look more into my original plan of doing the heads and cam, I want my car to be reliable.
Going to a single cat won't stop me from passing, all they care about here is that the car meets the standards it was suppose to when it came from the factory, they don't care how it does it.
I'm from Abbotsford, B.C. Canada, which is about an hour east of Vancouver.
